Lasers & Light : Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a broad-spectrum beam of light that serves as a multi-tasking alternative to traditional lasers which are limited to one specific wavelength. The IPL is used for treatment of sun damaged skin since it addresses multiple targets such as solar lentigines or “liver spots”, freckles, capillaries. A series of 3-4 treatments will also stimulate collagen thus improving skin tone and pore size. The IPL is the best method for global improvement of sun damaged skin.
This versatile light source treats all areas including the face, hands, chest, arms, and legs. Its wide array of wavelengths make it an excellent treatment for:
- Poikiloderma (combined red and brown mottling on the sides of the neck and jaw)
- Spider veins
- Facial hair
- Shallow acne scars
- Fine lines
Typically, there is no downtime following treatment. Dark spots become slightly darker and gradually fade over the next 7-10 days. A new multi-tiered approach for Rosacea targets vessels in several different depths of the skin. IPL may also be coupled with photodynamic therapy (PDT) to address severe sun damage, precancerous lesions, and acne.
