Fillers & Injectables : Sculptra

Initially FDA-approved for the treatment of severe HIV-related volume-loss, Sculptra (made of a carbohydrate called poly-L-lactic acid) is injected into the subcutaneous plane deep beneath the dermis, where it stimulates natural collagen production, leading to volume enhancement.

Sculptra is a means of restoring the beautiful curves of young cheeks, “replacing concavity with convexity,” says Dr. Franks.

Injections require 2-5 treatment sessions, usually 6 weeks apart, resulting in a long-lasting correction over two years, minimum.  Dr. Franks takes her time with Sculptra, injecting it slowly, so it is painless in her hands.  The effects are gradual and natural, resulting in “a beautiful burst of volume” which can last up to two years.

Suitable candidates are in their early forties and upwards.

Sculptra is typically used in:

  • Sunken cheeks and cheekbones (where it has “a lifting effect on the jawline,” says Dr. Franks)
  • Beneath the eyes
  • Around the jaw line
