Microdermabrasion & Peels : Why Microdermabrasions Work
To keep our skin it's healtiest, it's best to get periodic, deep cleanings. This involves removing the outer dead layers of skin to reveal the fresher, living skin below. This is known as exfoliation. We offer many ways to exfoliate the skin...one of which is microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a good treatment for acne prone individuals, those who desire a deep cleaning for healthy skin, and people with dull-looking skin.
If you are interested in learning more about Microdermabrasion, please schedule an appointment to meet with the cosmetic consultant.
What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of skin by buffing it with a stream of fine crystals. Air pressure drives the crystals at the skin at very high velocity and the same pressure creates a vacuum that pulls the crystals away from the skin. The process will remove only a very fine layer of skin...less than a thousandth of an inch thick. This layer of skin consists of dead skin that has lost the luster of living tissue and has suffered damage from the sun and other exposures. It also contains contaminents, pollutants and dirt that clogs pores and damages skin.
What are Expected Timeframes and Results?
Many people refer to Microdermabrasion as the "lunchtime peel" because it is a very quick procedure...generally less than an hour...so it easily fits into a lunchtime window. And because it is minimally invasive, you can go right back with your skin looking healthy and glowing, but not red and irritated. The best part...the visible benefit of microdermabrasion is immediate.
Another benefit of microdermabrasion is it prepares the skin for topical nutrients, and combining the procedure with a skin care regimin can deepen and lenthen the results you see.
What are Microdermabrasion Treatment Alternatives?
Although some people's skin gets great results from microdermabrasion, other people's skin resopnds better to chemical peels. We offer peels of many different strenghts, including minimally-invasive ones that leave the skin immediately fresher-looking.
Some people's skin might require more targeted solutions, such as Intensed Pulse Light (IPL) or more invasive treatments, including Laser Skin Resurfacing or Fraxel Laser Treatment. Please review these treatments and if interested, please make an appointment today.
